  • New theme from Shape 5 but don't tell anyone. It's lovely

    It's that time again. But I'm keeping my friends and there are no bends. A new Joomla theme from Shape 5 and like quite a few others of late, it seems to be focusing on Joomla and the power of design. It is lovely and I am going to use it. Don't get me wrong, there are loads of extensions that come with this but they're not extensions adding new components - the extensions enhance the experience. It is well worth a look, but if you're going to use it, try and get a bit creative with it - I want to use it as is. It is that nice.

    The Joomla Project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of Joomla 2.5.0. This is a security release. Version 2.5.0 is is the next update from version 1.7. (Note that we have skipped from version 1.7.x to 2.5.x.) Version 2.5.0 is the second release made within the new six-month release cycle that started with the delivery of Joomla 1.6 in January 2011. Version 2.5 is also a long-term-support (LTS) release that will be supported for at least 18 months.     We are very pleased to announce the first version of the Joomla! Student Outreach Program, or JSOP. The purpose of this program is to provide a structure that allows students to gain real-world software development experience working with world-class mentors on projects of value to the Joomla! community. This is an all-volunteer program. Students, mentors, and administrators work on a volunteer basis, although there will be cool t-shirts and achievement certificates for students who successfully complete one or more projects.     It's that time again. But I'm keeping my friends and there are no bends. A new Joomla theme from Shape 5 and like quite a few others of late, it seems to be focusing on Joomla and the power of design. It is lovely and I am going to use it. Don't get me wrong, there are loads of extensions that come with this but they're not extensions adding new components - the extensions enhance the experience. It is well worth a look, but if you're going to use it, try and get a bit creative with it - I want to use it as is. It is that nice.

    I must have had a dream, because I was about to write this post and it looks as if the theme has changed. Could this be the first signs of me getting old? The basis of the post in my head was that it was another great theme using Joomla rather than an extension or two to make the site look good and functional - the same could be said for this theme, but it is different to the one I had in my head. I could just be going mad.

I sometimes like to get 'just' the theme and if you remember there was one of those last month, but this month, even though this new one from RocketTheme looks lovely - it is one of the extras that has really gotten me interested.

    Possibly the biggest challenge theme providers face today is keeping the customer happy and coming back for more. Joomla, as a CMS is fantastic, but there are only so many modules and extensions you can use on a single page, so it is about the extras. Sometimes though, a theme provider gets it right with a theme again and when I first saw this one from Shape 5, it made me happy, because I wasn't interested in the features it had, the design just worked.
